Did you know that Ruyton girls were included in the 1.1 Million participants who read Alpacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove, on 22 May, as part of National Simultaneous Storytime?
During 'Library and Information Week' we celebrate contributions of libraries to society. As part of the celebrations, Ms Brown and our Year 6 Library Team organised for Ruyton to take part in National Simultaneous Storytime, an annual event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) to promote values of reading and literacy. Each year, a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator is picked to be read aloud to participants on the same day, at the same time.
Girls were excited when they discovered Matt Cosgrove's story Alpacas with Maracas was the chosen title, as many were familiar with the story Macca the Alpaca.
The Year 6 Library team planned to read the story in Assembly, so that all of the Junior School could take part in the fun. Wanting to bring a special something to the reading, the Library Team invited the Year 6 Drama Team to join them and the Drama Team kindly agreed to bring the story to life by acting out the story as it was read aloud.
The National Simultaneous Storytime Assembly was a great success; Prep - Year 3 girls came prepared with Alpaca masks and paper Maracas and the Library Team did a wonderful job reading the story with fun enthusiasm.
The Drama team brought their creative and passionate flair to the story and the book's message about always giving things a go, and having fun doing it, came through when the Year 6s encouraged everyone to stand up at the end of the story and shake like alpacas with maracas!
