Lit Club excursion to the Melbourne Writers Festival

The weather may have been bleak but not enough to dampen the spirits of a group of excited Lit Club students, fortunate enough to attended this year’s Melbourne Writers Festival.  On Thursday 30 August, the students travelled by train to Federation Square and proceeded to the Edge Theatre to begin their day at the festival. The first event they attended was a panel discussion with the incredibly talented Australian authors; Alice Pung and John Marsden. These authors spoke about their experiences as a writers and how their road to literary success wasn’t entirely as smooth as others may have expected.    The second activity involved the rappers Hugo Farrant and Fresh Violet. Hugo and Violet preformed a series of raps based on the works of Shakespeare, bringing the speeches to life. This presentation was both creative and interactive. The majority of the girls voted this session their favorite presentation of the day.    The third activity the students attended involved Manga.  Kinney Chan, a manga artist, taught the girls about the history of anime and comics, giving the students a deeper understanding of the history of Japanese graphic novels and the publishing process.   Before returning to school, the students enjoyed a quick visit to Screen Worlds: The Story of Film, Television and Digital Culture exhibition. In thisvirtual exhibition they had fun playing games and experiencing a virtual reality video
