On Monday 25 August, Vinharra, Mrs Purcell and I visited Federation Square to attend the Melbourne Writers Festival. Over the course of the day, we saw a variety of presentations by well-known authors including Jackie French, Kirsty Murray and Tim Cope. In the afternoon, Vinharra, as a youth judge for the Inky Awards, gave a presentation of the shortlisted books for 2014 in collaboration with two other judges. With an audience of around 300 people, she spoke with eloquence and confidence. The day was a great success for all involved, and Ruyton was certainly well represented.
