Book Week in Junior School Book Week at Ruyton is a very special event celebrating books and reading. In Library we study the CBCA Shortlisted Books and to celebrate Book Week we organise activities and of course have the Book Week Parade where everyone dresses up as their favourite book character. Students and staff all look forward to the Parade and showcase their costumes during Assembly, this year students got right into their characters, displaying the unique emotions of each character to the audience. The 2018 Book Week theme was ‘Find your Treasure’. Students discovered the treasure of books through activities and a display with a jungle adventure theme. We made decorations with helpers from all year levels. Now the display is complete, it is stunning and shows everyone’s hard work. We were very lucky to have both an amazing storyteller and an award-winning author come to talk to us during the week and show off their skills and stories. On Wednesday, storyteller Anne E. Stewart told us old folk stories during Assembly and then presented to children from Kindergarten to Year 2, who also learnt storytelling techniques, like using expression and hand-gestures. On Friday, author Gabrielle Wang presented to Years 3 - 6. Gabrielle says experiences, emotions and ideas help her write and she helped us understand the time and effort put into writing a book. Throughout the week we ran many fun lunchtime activities including a Treasure Hunt in which girls solved lots of problems and had a great time. The winners of the hunt were Lucy Ball from Year 2 and Courtney Curry from Year 5. Thank you to parents and teachers for supporting the Library Team to prepare for and create such an amazing Book Week and a special thank you to parents, helping your children dress up for the Parade. Without all those magnificent costumes Book Week would not have been as perfect as it was! Book Week is always so fun and we are so lucky to have it every year.
