Following is a journalism article by Lily (Yr 10) entitled "Around the world in 80 books!"
When most students go to school they walk straight to class and miss some of the best things about Ruyton. Like the gardens and the facilities available to us, especially the library. What most girls don't realise about our library is how much the staff do to make it a better place for everyone, by celebrating different events and having their famous competitions to get the girls more involved. Inside the library, you will find many different things, such as movies on at lunch, star making at recess, prizes for reading competitions, just to list a few.
This year, the library staff have come up with a brand new competition that will encourage girls to read a more diverse range of books from many different countries and cultures. With girls placing markers on the countries of the books that they have read, they are showing that the Ruyton library is truly multicultural.
With themes in books ranging from Pakistani detention centres to brand new Vietnamese schools, the staff have demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of what the girls of Ruyton enjoy reading. At the start, the map was very bare, but after just one week it has already begun to fill up and we have the library staff to thank for that.
